The Scissor Sisters aren’t the only ones taking their dance music to a darker realm. Swedish pop star Robyn debuted the first official single from her new mini-album Body Talk Part 1, and it’s a far cry from her upbeat hype track “Fembot”. With an extreme emphasis on the cry.
“Dancing On My Own” captures the desperate moment of longing for someone you can’t have, exploring a similar theme to previous releases “Be Mine” and “With Every Heartbeat”. Robyn has a talent for catapulting this concept beyond pathetic to a completely relatable level. And somehow in the end, you still want to dance to it. Give this one a few listens before you write it off. It’s definitely a grower!
