Aural Only: Duffy

Wait, what’s going on here? Manhunt Daily is featuring a song that isn’t equipped with a throbbing dance beat? And it has live instrumentation? Something must be wrong! We all know that a love for cock is synonymous with a love for awful pop music. This space was obviously intended for that Katy Perry song about plastic bags

Not at all, my dear! We’ve decided to take you up on your suggestion for Duffy‘s “Well, Well, Well”. If you’re able to dismiss that the vocals are reminiscent of The Chipettes, it’s actually an impressive, well-crafted pop tune. So what do you think–will this follow in the footsteps of “Mercy” and become an international hit?

She's got talent and a very unique voice. Not everyone cares for that type of voice but that doesn't stop people like Dolly Parton, Tom Waits, Joanna Newsom, Christin Chenowith just to name a few successful musicians who have "acquired taste" vocals. However, their fame does not stop their voices from becoming grating after awhile.

Really annoying. And the male dance ensemble has about as much rhythm as a brick. I did love “Mercy” though, so maybe this will grow on me.

  • mark

is it really possible that someone would not get that the dancing is deliberately clumsy?

  • KLF

OMG. A song with actual vocal talent and no dance beats. Thanks Duffy for reminding us that there’s still hope for pop music. Lol.

  • i love duffy..and the song..will surely grow on me..what i dread is when those club mixers get ahold of it..and make it there own…crap

I’m a fan, but her voice hasn’t hit me with this one yet. Although, I’m sure repeated viewings of this video and it’s ensemble will fix all that.

  • I love Duffy and I sorta like this song. My favorite song by her is Rain On Your Parade. Now that’s a great song!

  • Rob

this song is all right. something about her voice isn’t working for me, though. that guy with the glasses is just fully hot, i will say.

  • livelybrowsers

    Thanks for good stuff

  • David

Okay, the song is good, but that damn VOICE! Fingernails on a chalkboard- this could have been a fun track for someone who has some “oomph” to her voice, like maybe Jennifer Hudson, Martha Wash, even a fun change of pace for Annie Lennox. Honestly, when she started singing I thought it was a joke- one more example of looks trumping talent in the music business.

    it’s more like an advert

I actually love Duffy, have for years. But this song just doesn’t do it for me.

  • kevin

JEEZUS what is is that horrible squeaking sound coming from her lips. This sounds like Ertha Kit on helium. Terrible.

  • CupidsBeau

Good song, tho not her best, and I liked the video’s styling and the guys were quite adorable.

  • Bohemond

She’s got a great voice, but it doesn’t really work with this particular song.

  • Michael

Quite possibly the most upbeat rendition of a woman about to get raped I have ever seen.

    🙂

  • TJ

Well, well. I have to say up until that opening shot of her heels walking I never noticed how close to cankles Duffy is.

  • Way too adorable, Duffy is. >w<

  • Jorge

    I love it ””

  • JPH

I totally love her and her music. This video is cute, but the guys are even better. Check on You Tube her performance last night on BBC2.

  • David

Totally in agreement with Michael- this is like the Disney Channel remake of Jodie Foster in “The Accused”.

  • Stereo

Finally a decent contender for the Manhunt Top 10. I really dig this song. Duffy is unlike any other of the UK imports. Maybe Amy Winehouse is the only one close on the same style of music.

  • Phil

Cool song. It’s not Rain on your parade or Stepping Stone, but goes along the same lines of Mercy. It’s happy and she always has that Dusty Springfield vibe in her music. Not that I am comparing them both.

All the guys hating on this song must be from the Ke$ha front and fighting back because their princess was trashed in the comments section. I vote for Duffy and just wait for the suggestion I got for you this weekend, Dewitt. Hint: Another blond singer from the UK.

  • Good article

  • James

    Love this song!!!!

  • Javier

I don’t think she SOUNDS like Miss Dusty, Phil. Duffy’s voice is too often shrill-sounding, whereas Dusty’s had an incredibly expansive range. But I get what you’re talking about that their music (not their singing) has a lot of the same vibe.
