Dark Dark Dark: Who Needs Who

We haven’t written a proper album review in nearly two years. Considering how rusty I am, the best I can say of Dark Dark Dark‘s Who Needs Who is that it’s “really good”. The album, largely, finds inspiration from emotional tension within the band. While it’s not quite Fleetwood Mac‘s Rumours, there are noticeable lyrical hints throughout the project that reference the broken relationship of band members Nona Marie Invie and Marshall LaCount.

“You want everything to stay the same, and then things change, but I’ll never get tired of singing these songs, no I’ll never get tired of singing these songs,” Invie sings on “Meet In The Dark”. And judging from the way she delivers each of “these songs”, it’s clear that she’s not lying. Her commitment to the music is stronger than ever.

Though I would have loved to give you a listen to my favorite track from the album, “Patsy Cline”, you’ll have to settle for the quintet’s lead single “Tell Me” (as embedded above). Not that it’s really “settling” in the traditional sense. It’s also quite good, the perfect tune to take us right into autumn.
