DeShawn Timothy of Philly duo Sgt. Sassreleased a brand new solo EP, and I refuse to understand why, right at this exact moment, you’re doing anything that doesn’t involve listening to it… So stop sipping coffee, jerking off, breathing, eating a banana or whatever the fuck you’re doing! Then, head on over to iTunes, Bandcamp or Spotify to take a listen to Merge, an excellent and thoroughly upbeat four-song set from one of the best gay rappers in the game.
Should you need more convincing—or if you never want to leave Manhunt Daily ever—take a listen to the songs below, along with some ridiculous “narration” from yours truly.
1. The title track “Merge” is THE BEST: This song makes me want to roll the windows of my car down, purposefully find myself stuck at red lights, dance like a fool and lip-sync to the people in the car next to me. Unfortunately, my balls would freeze and fall off if I tried to do that, so I guess I’ll just have to wait until summer?
2. “Werq” is a multi-purpose anthem: There are so many things you can do while listening to “Werq”—professional work, working out, homework, craft work, housework, working it out on the dance floor or working a tight, hungry… OH HEY! The possibilities are endless, and this song will take your booty and deliver it on a one-way trip to Shaketown.
3. “Inferno” is much better than reading Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy: Literary references don’t have any place in this review. Ignore everything I just said, listen to the track above and bob your head. Not that I need to tell you to bob your head, because it’ll probably just happen naturally.
4. THIS FACE: This was only supposed to be a list with four reasons… Then I paused the video below at this exact moment, and it might be the best thing I’ve seen all week.
5. The music video for “55” will make you want to buy some red solo cups, gather all your friends and dance ALL WEEKEND LONG: Gosh, I can’t remember the last time I went to a party as an adult where people weren’t too uptight to dance! As an extreme dance party activist and twerking enthusiast, this makes me deeply sad inside… But, uh, at least I can live vicariously through this video!
