Petula Clark is 80 years old. You know, just to put things into perspective! The British singer, perhaps best known for her hit 1960s single “Downtown“, premiered her very first single in 1949 and continued to release music through nearly every decade since. Her career is twice as long as my life (and then some).
Yet her latest track “Cut Copy Me” doesn’t sound the least bit old.
Nobody would bat a single eyelash if you threw this onto a playlist next to Lana Del Rey or Jessie Ware. It’s like a brilliant combination of Sia‘s 2004 sleeper hit “Breathe Me” and the José González cover of “Heartbeats“, combining oddly somber vocals and instrumentation with sweet, romantic lyrics.
(And, yes, there are dance remixes.)
