4 Ways To NOT React To Rod Daily’s HIV Status
Several of you have asked when we’re going to cover the news of Rod Daily‘s HIV status. There was admittedly some hesitation on our part due to the potentially harsh reactions. Not to mention, sites with a deeper understanding of the industry like Gay Porn Blog have tackled the topic with much more grace than we could ever aspire to.
For those of you still wondering what the hell we’re talking about, Rod Daily recently revealed on Twitter that he tested positive for HIV, after news of his girlfriend Cameron Bay‘s status leaked and made national headlines. In anticipation of those potentially harsh reactions we mentioned earlier, we’ve gone ahead and made a short list of four ways to not react to this news.
Read our list of ways to NOT react to Rod Daily’s HIV status:
Playing The Blame Game: Who or what is to blame for Rod Daily testing positive? His girlfriend, Cameron Bay? One of her scene partners? Rod Daily himself? His sexuality? His tendency to bottom? The gay porn industry? Please stop asking yourself these questions. Rod said in an interview that he’s not pointing any fingers, and it’s really not your business to do the pointing for him (or toward him).
Turning Your Back On Him: If you are a fan of Rod Daily, there’s no reason to stop being a fan of Rod Daily. He is, effectively, leaving the adult industry, but there are still other ways to show your support. Connect with him on Twitter and send over a warm thought or two… Or if you’re looking for a more grand gesture, do something to reduce stigma and stop discrimination against people living with HIV. The Stigma Project has some great campaigns which might assist in both of these missions.
Begging Him To Come Back To Porn: This is his decision to make. He does not have to stop filming adult scenes—especially if he is on effective HIV treatment and undetectable—but if that’s the step he feels he needs to take in life, let him move on with his life and hold his head high. Yes, he could still film solos! Yes, he could still work with studios who use condoms and hire HIV-positive performers! Yes, he could still work with bareback studios who hire HIV-positive performers and (generally) pair them together! But he doesn’t want to, at least right at this moment. You should respect that.
Fearing Gay Sex In General: You are not going to test positive for HIV if you merely walk out your front door. This seems like a silly way of putting it, but I look to Ricky Larkin as an example of someone who jumped ship from the industry because of this incident. Many sexually active individuals and gay porn performers have a lot of gay sex and remain HIV negative. Communicate with your partner(s), take the precautions you’re comfortable with and get tested regularly. Our dear friends at Manhunt Cares have an extensive list of testing resources and other information, though you can also pick-up an at-home HIV test (OraQuick) online or at your local pharmacy.
