Random Question: Disasters in Fashion & Styling Edition

View Comments 18 May 2012

A friend turned me onto a hilarious comedian who regularly headlines at Therapy in NYC, and she just did a post on her blog entitled “Summertime and the Dressin’ is Shitty“. As you might imagine, the entire post is about how men, both straight and gay, make terrible decisions in the realm of personal style.

This got me wondering—what do you bitches hate? Like, more specifically, what are your pet peeves when it comes to fashion, hair, grooming and so forth? What things do other guys do that make you want to stab yourself in the eyeballs?

My thing is toe shoes. They freak me out so much.

Random Question: Gay-Targeted Advertising Edition

View Comments 04 May 2012

Question! Are you more likely to support a brand if they release an ad targeting or showing support for the LGBT community? With new man-on-man ads from the Gap and Ray-Ban, as well as the JC Penney lesbian mother “controversy”, we felt like this would be an interesting topic of discussion for a Friday morning (or whenever you’re reading this).

In our opinion, it’s all about context. You can’t just slap a rainbow on something and make us want to buy it. What are your thoughts on this matter? In other words, we’re going to stop talking, because we’re actually more interested in hearing what YOU have to say.

Random Question: Do Gay Icons Still Exist?

View Comments 12 April 2012

Okay, sluts! It’s time to talk about some gay shit. The topic of “gay icons” started brewing in our minds after our dear acquaintance Jasun Mark (of Gay Daily Hot fame) took a break from posting naked porn stars to write a piece entitled “Judy Garland is no longer considered a ‘Gay Icon’. And that’s a good thing.

We briefly debated this topic on Twitter. Jasun’s argument is that Judy Garland is no longer relevant to today’s generation of gay men, thereby eliminating her status as a “gay icon”. However, in my opinion, the idea of a gay icon is deeply routed within the history of our culture (if we can even still call it a culture). Once you’re a gay icon, you don’t stop being a gay icon. You’ve earned it.

Now, here’s where my thought process gets tricky. I’m extremely skeptical about whether there’s such a thing as a modern-day gay icon. Just because a bunch of dudes who suck dick enjoy Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, does that necessarily make them “gay icons”? What qualifies a gay icon? Is Judy Garland no longer a gay icon, or is the very idea of a gay icon outdated within our “community”?

These are my questions! You are free to discuss them. Alternatively, you could just roll your eyes and ignore me… Or you could just say you lean towards Jasun’s priceless gem of an answer—“My gay icon is my dick”. ::sigh:: Truer words have never been spoken.

UPDATE: Apparently I missed this article. Oops.

Random Question: Who’s The Sexiest U.S. President?

View Comments 20 February 2012

Nobody actually knows how to celebrate Presidents’ Day, so why don’t we just engage in a friendly conversation about the sexiest U.S. Presidents? We’re too lazy to post pictures of every single one of them, but you can check out a handy ranking (compiled last year) with images on Nerve.com.

Or maybe you’re a huge dork who’s already thought about this, and you don’t need a list to tell you who’s the sexiest U.S. President. That’s cool too. Dorks are hot.

PS: It was surprisingly difficult to find a “sexy Abe Lincoln” pic.

Random Question: Do You Think The Disclaimer On Sean Cody’s Bareback Threesome Is Problematic?

View Comments 06 January 2012

A few days ago, a colleague at Manhunt headquarters approached my desk and innocently inquired whether I’d be writing about Sean Cody‘s recent bareback threesome. I replied that, while I occasionally write about bareback scenes in order to encourage a dialogue about safer sex, I generally try to avoid posting too many clips without condoms. There are exceptions to this rule… But, arguably, those are a more subtle approach of encouraging the aforementioned dialogue.

Truthfully, I never want to come off as preachy on this topic. The words of the “disclaimer” on our bareback posts are carefully chosen: “We here at Manhunt Daily encourage you to make responsible decisions in your sexual activities, however you may interpret that. Please head over to Manhunt Cares for more information on safer sex techniques.”

Key words? Responsible decisions. However you may interpret that. The fact of the matter is that you’re all adults (or at least you should be if you’re reading this). You can have sex however you want to have sex. Make it romantic. Be rough. Fist one another. Cuddle vigorously. Give someone an enema facial.

However, whatever you’re doing, make sure it’s an informed decision. Get tested. Know your status. Communicate with your partner(s). If you use condoms, make sure they’re the right size. These are just a few small steps to ensuring your sexual health, but there are so many others.

Educate yourself. Know the facts. That’s really the most important step.

Now, after I said I don’t want to be preachy, this is starting to sound a bit preachy. Sorry! I actually opted to write this post after briefly doing my research and coming across a whole other “disclaimer”:

“In order to create this film our models underwent strict screening for HIV and other STDs. Our studio used the RNA by PCR test, which is the most effective test available. Unprotected sex is not something we recommend or endorse, even if you’re in a relationship.”

That’s the message shown before Sean Cody‘s bareback threesome. They’re obviously just looking out for their subscriber’s safety, right? Kind of like how they’re looking out for their models’ safety (to their best ability) by getting them tested in the most “strict” and “effective” way possible…

But do elements of this disclaimer rub you the wrong way? Do they take it too far by saying you shouldn’t have sex without a condom, even if you’re in a committed relationship? Or do you agree with the overall sentiment of their message?
