Why don’t more guys smile in their Manhunt profile pictures? While I can’t answer that question on a universal level, I have some theories on my own personal aversion to flashing my teeth around for anyone to see (whereas I express no hesitation in showing complete strangers my butt).
The first part of my theory has to do with what’s ingrained in my mind as “sexy”. I spent my formative masturbational years jerking off to the stern expressions and crooked, closed-mouth smirks of COLT models like Steve Kelso, Carl Hardwick and Pete Kuzak. Much as I recognize that smiles give me (and other people) major wood—I mean, hello, Andrew Justice—there’s this subconscious instinct to emulate what I saw on the screen back then every time I pick up my phone to snap a shot.
The second part of my theory isn’t fully informed, but it has something to do with vulnerability, introversion and some sort of “blah, blah, blah” about people needing to earn a smile from me, which winds up sounding vaguely obnoxious when I type it out. The basic gist of this is that I have no fucking clue what I’m talking about.
