Florence + The Machine: “Breath of Life”

Does anyone remember back in the day when soundtracks were a “thing”? I know, I know! That sounds like a ridiculously stupid question. I might as well just ask, “Does anyone remember when people went out to stores and actually bought physical copies of albums?”

Alas, once upon a time, there was a day when soundtracks were less of an obligation and more of an event. At times, they were even more exciting than the film itself! Case in point? Compare the cultural relevance of Aaliyah‘s “Are You That Somebody” to the cultural relevance of Eddie Murphy‘s Doctor Dolittle. Shit like that doesn’t happen anymore.

I was convinced for the longest time that soundtracks were dead, but it seems that, much like boy bands, they have potential to make a comeback. This is my convoluted way of introducing “Breath of Life”, the new single by Florence + The Machine from the Snow White and the Huntsman soundtrack. It’s pretty fucking epic, and while this track might not single-handedly bring back the “soundtrack as an event”, it at least sounds like it could.

  1. are also like Shake it Out its a very powerful song with a powerful message

  2. This movie looks like it could be good…then Kristen Stewart shows up…in armor.

I know I’ll watch it though, but I’ll keep the most minimal of hopes and no expectations.

  3. I do not care for Kristen Stewart, but this movie looks BAD ASS!

oh & btw, Florence and the Machine are AH-MAZE-BALLS!

  4. I love everything that Florence + The Machine does. Am I the only one who is cheering for Charlize Theron? I think an eternally young, beautiful, and fabulous Charlize is more than worth Kristen Stewart’s heart.
