There have been mixed reactions to the news that Drake—he who claims to be “the first person to successfully rap and sing”—will (most likely) be acting as executive producer on a posthumous Aaliyah project. These feelings became even more muddled over the weekend, when the first product of this, er, collaboration was released for the world’s ears.
Personally, I’ve been struggling to pin down my thoughts on the resulting track, “Enough Said”. The somber tone of the production is downright haunting. To make things all the more eerie, it’s as if each time the music fades, we’re losing Aaliyah all over again. The only logical response is to hit “play” again and bring her back to life, even if it’s just for another three minutes and fifty-four seconds… But those three minutes and fifty-four seconds are full of, well, hope?

I literally loved Aaliyah with all my heart and was therefore devastated when she passed away. She embodied phenominal talent. Every one can agree that she left us way, way too soon.
At this point I haven’t yet heart the track “Enough Said”. But as a huge fan to this day, I would love to get as much of her as possible.
I think Drake is a tasteful and deep musical artist much like Aaliyah was herself. It seems like he would create beautiful works of whatever loose voice fragments have been hanging around.
I for one am hereby anxious to hear the results!
Greetings from Holland 🙂
This makes me so unbelievably happy. Personally I think losing Aaliyah was the greatest tragedy to music. It is amazing to hear her live on through her music. I hope Drake finishes this project. But I think it should be Missy and Timbaland who have the honours of doing it.
That made a tear run right down my leg that did :X
2 celebrities that hurt me the most to lose were Aaliyah & Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes. Buy Aaliyah has always struck deep since she died on August 25th. My Birthday. It was a horrible thing to hear that one of my favorite singers died on my Birthday. Still to this day Aaliyah’s music is some of my favorite. Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number, Back & Forth, One In A Million, Four Page Letter, The One I Gave My Heart To, If Your Girl Only Knew, Rock The Boat, More, Than A Woman, I Care For You, etc.
This is a great song, minus Drake’s parts, but he is a fucking shithead for releasing this against her family’s wishes. (And against Missy Elliott and Timbaland’s wishes.)
Aaliyah’s voice is still amazing, even revisiting it after a decade. She is truly missed.
Drake is producing and releasing this product with no support from her family – they have actively told him not to and that they are disappointed this is happening, because they don’t have creative control over her music. Missy and Timbaland have said the same thing – disappointing that he is continuing this project without them.
It was really good, I hope he finishes the project. I bet money is behind the reason for the lack of her family support.
Correct me if I’m wrong but Lauryn Hill was the first to do what Drake professes to have done.Come on Drizzy don’t act like you don’t know. Maybe you’re the first Halfrican-Canadian half jewish to do that..that I’ll give you,but no more than than that.
By the way drake very ignorant of you not acknowledge missy , lauryn, Dana Owens aka queen Latifah, Nelly did it as well as Domino, from 1992
OMG..this really makes me miss her talent so much..You are missed.. Aaliyah
