Flashback Friday: The Destroying Angel (1976)

Before mainstream studios were releasing “controversial” porn about priests doing the nasty, director Peter de Rome tackled the topic in the 1976 film The Destroying Angel. The script, based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe, focuses on a young man torn between the seminary and semen. Driven by lust, he takes a three month sabbatical, does a lot of drugs and does a lot of dudes.

I don’t know about you, but Bijou had me at “based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe”. When was the last time you watched gay porn based on a story by Edgar Allan Poe? I’m guessing never, unless you’ve happened to see this flick back in the day…

  1. I wonder which short story was it based on …. I have never read a story like this by E A Poe lol!!!!

  2. I wish more porn were a little more highbrow. “lol hi im the pizzaboy u gon giv me a tip mr? ;););)” gets old fast.

  3. It is based on the short story “William Wilson” but don’t go looking there for gay erotica.

  4. I was surprised at how in shaped the guys looked. Maybe I was thinking of the 60s when I half expected flabby skinny icky bodies? Perhaps the Jane Fonda effect had kicked in by 1976?

  5. Wow…I think I’d watch this more for the plot than the porn…and I never thought I’d say that. ow o;
