It’s always a good day when a band you totally forgot about resurfaces with a new song. Such is the case with Fibes, Oh Fibes! I first encountered this Swedish pop trio back in 2006, when their smooth-ass jam “Get Up” invaded my tender college boy ears. It was somewhere between boy band and Robin Thicke, and this combination led to quite a few late night underwear dance parties (by myself, sadly).
Fast-forward to 2012. I’m sitting at my desk on a Monday morning, and I come to discover that these guys have released four albums since 2004. Where the fuck was I when that happened? Certainly not Sweden, the birthplace of all highly amazing and highly underrated pop music! (See Robyn)
So as I’m sipping my coffee and having a terrible case of the Mondays, I hit the ‘play’ button and let Fibes’ new single “Cerahtonia” take over my brain…
And it was too much! Too much joy, too much peppiness, too much sound! Yet a very small part of me was okay with that. My curiosity got me a minute or so into the track and right as I was about to turn it off, an intriguing pair of female vocals (allegedly fellow Swedes Icona Pop) entered the mix.
Then I was hooked. I had reached the point of no return.
“Cerahtonia” has been on repeat for every day since then, and I’m currently trying to acquire a copy of the band’s new album Album. Yes, they named their album Album. You have every right to be annoyed by that, but you shouldn’t let it influence whether you give these guys a chance. This is pure pop gold.
