It’s that time of the year when I feel like a douche-hat for never getting out to the movies! While I could follow the Grammy nominations on a basic level, the 2013 Golden Globe nominees read like a list of things I’d care about if I went out to see Argo instead of masturbating to Trent Locke‘s final scene for the 90,000th time.
I even feel out of touch with half of the television nominees! This makes absolutely no sense at all, because I spend a whole lot of time in front of my television. Maybe I should become a functioning member of society and start watching Homeland like a normal person? Unclear!

I just want to give a shout-out congratulations to Rachel Weisz for a well-deserved nomination for “The Deep Blue Sea,” my favorite movie of the year. It’s heavy going — obsessive, suicidal love affair in bleak post-WWII London — but a dazzling, breathtaking film. Based on a play by Terence Rattigan (gay), adapted to the screen and directed by Terence Davies (gay), it opens with an astonishing 9 minute sequence scored to Samuel Barber’s (gay) Violin Concerto Op. 14: II Adante. Plus, you get to see Tom Hiddleston naked and he’s sexy as fuck in the film (even if his character is a bit of a cad).
