Justin Timberlake: “Suit & Tie”

The best thing about the new Justin Timberlake song is that it isn’t trying to sound like anything but Justin Timberlake. It’s almost as if the now 31 year-old former boy bander picked up where he left off with frequent collaborator Timbaland, yet somehow, it manages to not feel stale after his seven-year hiatus from the music industry.

You see, “Suit & Tie” finds coolness in not trying to be cool at all. This is the unhippest track Justin Timberlake has ever recorded, devoid of any aspects that are currently popular on radio right now. There are dorky-ass horns. He uses the word “fattie” with no hint of irony. You could imagine your creepy uncle dancing to this at a wedding, shortly after busting a move to “Sweet Caroline”.

Timberlake could have come back experimenting with dubstep or singing over a catchy Max Martin jam, but he stayed true to who he is as an artist. If you don’t like what “Suit & Tie” has to offer, you’ve got to at least respect the sincerity behind it.

  1. Sort of like his SNL sketches he’s done over the last few years…”Dick In A Box” etc. Nothing new here. Disappointing.
