This morning I awoke to a NewNowNext story entitled “Beards Keep You Young, Healthy & Handsome, Says Science“. As a bearded man who wants to be all of those things, this sounded like great news until I read the article and realized that it was all pretty common sense stuff about how UV rays won’t age your face so fast if you’ve got a beard, and how beards are good for asthma victims because all the environmental stuff that would normally go up your nose can get trapped in your beard instead.
That’s fine. But you know what else is fine? The man they selected to illustrate this post. His name is Hal Hunter, and he’s a 19-year old Australian football player. What is Australian football, you ask? I don’t know, actually, except that it’s a full-contact sport that seems to be like regular football only with skimpy, unpadded uniforms. Which sounds dangerous but also really hot.
Here are some photos of Hal Hunter to brighten your day.

At 63, I’ve had a beard, or at least some form of facial hair, must of my adult life. Not to go unsung, is the part about feeling younger. I keep it trimmed, neat, and at this point, colored when it’s needed. My young pardner likes it when it starts to grey out but I like to see myself in the mirror, looking on the younger side that I remember myself to be. Possibly a little “vanity” creeping through?
Looks like Rugby to me….so…Australian football is rugby, European football is soccer, and American football is…football? xD
Australian Football is not rugby, and is slightly related to Gaelic football, played on an oval field, not rectangular. There are actually two types of rugby – League and Union. League comes from northern England, Union from the Public (ie private) schools. Soccer’s proper name is Association Football. And American football is known as gridiron outside the US.
yep richard is right. And frankly neither type or Rugby or even Gridiron/NFL has any type of validity in being called FOOTball… as neither use their feet on the ball except for kicking field goals or “conversions”. Australian Rules Football is all about kicking – no touchdowns there, as is proper Football… the one americans (and tbh most australians) call soccer.
