Word on the street is that NBC's new gay(ish) series Kings will be moving to Saturday nights, after four Sundays of not-so-hot ratings. Presumably, this ousting from the Sunday slots means the show is headed towards cancellation territory, but could the peacock network have saved the show by making it a little gayer?
I tuned into the first episode of Kings because I heard that Sebastian Stan (pictured above) would be playing Jack Benjamin, the king's gay and closeted son. I was disappointed by how coyly they dealt with Jack's homosexuality. The only time it was addressed was when his father confronts him about "his ways" and his mother tries to keep up Jack's appearance of straightness by staging an affair between him and one of her staff members.
It's understood that the writers wanted to let the story unfold naturally, though I think they could have sexed it up a little. I'm not saying I needed full-on butt-sex, but I would have preferred to hear about Jack's gayness in a more… well, shirtless way. Couldn't King Silas or Queen Rose have caught him in bed with his lover? That would have been my suggestion, but alas it's too late…

pilot episodes really need that sex edge to show an example as to what the rest of the season is likely to look like.
