Oh no! Within the past decade, ratings for Canadian figure skating are down 30%. What are they planning on doing to restore the sport to its former glory? Apparently, the solution is to get more men to tune in.
Skate Canada basically wants to turn the sport into a Powerthirst commercial by encouraging officials and athletes to use words like strength, power, speed and risk. By emphasizing the athletic prowess of the skaters, they believe more men will see the masculinity hidden within the sequins
Speaking of which, they're also discouraging skaters from wearing anything too sparkly, shiny or dangly. According to Skate Canada's Chief Executive William Thompson, it makes the athletes seem like they're "in an ice show, not a competition."
Would you watch figure skating if it were a bit more extreme? Or do you prefer the "glitter and be gay" version that doesn't seem like it's overcompensating?

Figure skaters have great muscle tone and and sexy shape. They should wear gymnastics-inspired outfits so we can appreaciate the work that goes into it, rather than showcasing what the skater’s mom made. I’d like to see more bulges.
What I love about figure skating is that is combines artistry and athleticism. I love watching the men in their form fitting clothes.
i remember seeing a skating performance by a bunch of the big (male) names of the sport. but they did this really hot cowboy routine. uhm… enough said…
hey man, that axel was intense!
