The organization we are highlighting this week is The Association of Latino Men for Action (ALMA). This organization is based in Chicago, Illinois and works to empower and help gay men in the Latino community through various means. In their own words:
"The
Association of Latino Men for Action (ALMA) is an
educational, social, advocacy, and support group
for gay, bisexual, or questioning men. For over a
decade, ALMA has nurtured a group identity based
on the experiences of gay Latino men and has become
an important voice on social and political issues
both locally and nationally. A member of Chicago's
Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame, ALMA continues at the
forefront of the movement, helping to shape a better
future for the gay Latino community."
ALMA's programs include educational
forums and workshops, social events, a
gay youth scholarship program, and much more. I'd love to hear from anyone who has worked with or been helped by ALMA before, if that's you leave a comment!
