Contrary to what this countdown seems to indicate, the COLT ICON series wasn’t the only thing featured in our Flashback Friday posts for 2014. We had some outstanding highlights like Dean Phoenix, Taurus, Ted Martin, Garrison Habsburg and Steve Vega, and yet none of these men were any match for COLT‘s legendary gay porn pin-up gods.
Seven of the nine COLT ICON subjects featured in 2014 made today’s countdown, with the top six slots entirely compiled of the studio’s work. Last year’s two favorites Pete Kuzak and Steve Kelso dropped down with their follow-ups, finding themselves replaced by newer (old) faces like Anthony Page, Terry Delong, Buck Hayes and Sam Dekker.
Interesting, the three non-COLT entries presented here don’t focus on specific individuals. Two are compilations of retro Tumblr pages, while the last is a 1970s guide to “The Fine Art Of Cruising“. Moving forward, I’ll try to expand beyond the COLT ICON series for future Flashback Friday entries. You’re welcome to comment with suggestions for 2015 (or the next few weeks of this year).

We wrote: “The Fine Art of Cruising is a 1975 guide on how to navigate the world before Manhunt made it remarkably easy to get a dick in your mouth. If you didn’t happen to live through that period, this is worth reading to see how much gay culture’s evolved since the 1970s (or, alternatively, how much it hasn’t evolved in certain ways). It’s like a history lesson you can read without your pants on.”

9. NEW MAN:
We wrote: “Every now and then, you come across a Tumblr so carefully curated that it feels like magic… You can now add NEW MAN to that category. I have no idea where they came from, how long they’ve been around or if they’re even still actively posting, but I was sold after browsing through their five pages of nudie mags, old phone sex hotline ads and assorted vintage content.”

8. BYRON HAWKWOOD:
We wrote: “From the shaggy hair to the occasionally terrible wardrobe choices, everything about Byron Hawkwood screams retro. He’s the latest model to be inducted into the COLT ICON series, and if you’re familiar with his work, then it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise… I’ll confess, I had never heard of him before today, but that’s the beauty of the COLT ICON series—introducing younger gay men to stunning male physiques they wouldn’t have otherwise seen.”

7. PURELY VINTAGE:
We wrote: “As some of you might know, Tumblr is full of sites specifically dedicated to vintage gay porn. We wrote about the infrequently updated (yet expertly curated) NEW MAN in the past, but if you prefer more consistency and variety, you might want to start following Purely Vintage. They’ve got everything from Al Parker to Tom of Finland, along with enough pornstaches and big schlongs to satisfy anyone‘s retro fix.”

6. PETE KUZAK:
We wrote: “It’s okay if you have a sense of déjà vu as you gaze upon COLT model Pete Kuzak‘s face (or other parts). This is his second appearance in the COLT ICON series, an ongoing project where the studio digs into their archives for some rare images of their most iconic models. Pete’s first set of pics from the series was so well-received that it topped our 2013 Best of Manhunt Daily round-up for the best Flashback Friday posts.”

5. STEVE KELSO:
We wrote: “You could accuse COLT of running out of ideas for featuring mustachioed pin-up Steve Kelso twice in their COLT ICON series, but anyone who’s familiar with Steve’s work knows that he’s worth the second look. It also doesn’t hurt, of course, that he’s just as appealing to this day. Rumors have swirled that he’s interested in making a comeback, prompting modern porn stars like Conner Habib to perk up at the thought of working with him.”

4. SAM DEKKER:
We wrote: “To put it into a modern perspective, Sam Dekker is giving me a Joe Manganiello vibe, mostly thanks to the juxtaposition of his long, dark shaggy hair and smooth, ripped physique. He recently joined Pete Kuzak, Terry Delong and a slew of other stunning male physical specimens as the latest inductee to the COLT ICON series… And, well, I’d say he earned his spot there!”

3. BUCK HAYES:
We wrote: “If the sun-kissed hair and piercing blue eyes don’t grab you, this retro adonis will charm your pants off with his bulging biceps, lickable balls and remarkable solid muscle butt. His light blond mustache would have been perfect for tickling your taint as he munched away on your hole, and damnit, it sure would be a treat to spend some time bobbing up and down between those thick thighs.”

2. TERRY DELONG:
We wrote: “Terry comes equipped with classic good looks, a stellar physique and a nice piece of equipment hanging between his thighs. I gladly welcome him to the Flashback Friday series, the COLT ICON series and any damn series anyone wants to put him in.”

1. ANTHONY PAGE:
We wrote: “Aside from the hilariously dated dye-job in some of these pics, I’m going to give two thumbs (and one dick) up to their latest pick Anthony Page. He’s got a nice coating of fur, incredible thighs, a great curve on his cock and a goatee I wouldn’t mind rubbing against my taint. This is the type of guy who makes Flashback Friday worthwhile.”

As morbid as it sounds, I’d be really interested in knowing how many of these men are still with us (apart from Kelso, of course)
Amazing men, all of them. Wonder what they are up to now.
