When celebrities make the transition from virginal role models to sexually-aware adult individuals, the reaction from the public isn't always enthusiastic. This is especially true when you're a former Disney Channel star who records a song with the line "I hope he used a rubber, or I'mma be in trouble."
Back in the early 2000s, Kiely Williams stormed onto the music scene with girl group 3LW. She lisped her way through their hit single "No More (Baby I'ma Do It Right)", and then proceeded to appear alongside Raven Symone as "Aquanette Walker" in Disney's hit movie series The Cheetah Girls.
Now, Williams has released the music video for her first solo song "Spectacular". We posted the song a while back to extremely negative reactions, and it turns out that you're not the only ones who don't like it. Several folks have attacked the singer for condoning (and potentially encouraging) date rape, an accusation which she deemed "absurd" in a written statement.
If we could believe her statement, we'd say Kiely's heart is in the right place, but have you seen the video? There's a difference between "bringing attention" to something and making getting roofied seem like oodles of fun. I'm sure everyone who's even been raped under the influence can totally agree that the "sex was spectacular", right? [Please note the sarcasm and utter disdain in the last sentence.] I'm calling bullshit on this lame-ass defense. What do you think about it?

The music video:
Here's Kiely's statement:
"I am an actor and performer," she writes. "…I am playing a character in the music video for the song 'Spectacular', as I did in the Cheetah Girls movies. The fact is, that sometimes women get intoxicated and have unprotected sex. My video puts this issue front and center. It is absurd to infer or suggest that I am condoning this behavior.
"Are Lady Gaga and Beyonce advocating murder with the 'Telephone' video? Of course not. Was Rihanna encouraging suicide with 'Russian Roulette'? No. Was Madonna suggesting that young unmarried girls get pregnant with 'Papa Don't Preach'? I don't think so. Is Academy Award winner Monique a proponent of incest because of her portrayal of Mary in the movie Precious? Clearly, the answer is no. I wrote 'Spectacular' and made the video to bring attention to a serious women's health and safety issue. Don't shoot the messenger."
And here's the video of Kiely's explanation:
Well Said And great Song!
“Cause the sex was spectacular…”
Haha, after some time, I am loving the song now! The shock factor is done, and people need to get over it!
My favorite verse” I think he pulled a track out, while he was blowin’ my back out”, bwahahaha classic!
Kiely isn’t the property of Disney. Let her express herself however she feels!
It’s a terrible song and video, but I don’t really see the issue here. While her description of the act “face down, ass up, clothes off, broke off, dozed off”, and the line “What he did to me last night felt so good I must have been on drugs” have slight connotations of being roofied, I think from the rest of the song that’s not the case at all. And in her written statement only describes the woman as being “intoxicated”.
Seems more like someone who got drunk at a club and hooked up, can’t entirely remember what happened except that the sex was good. How many times does that happen every weekend? Thousands? Tens of thousands?
There’s a huge difference between being taken advantage of while drunk, and two people getting drunk at a club and ending up having consensual sex (even if the law feels it can’t be consensual when you’re intoxicated).
First of all, every song has a message. Secondly, she’s not a clever, witty or smart enough writer to try to make the excuse that she’s just acting. The song is crap and she looks like a hooker. Sexy is one thing but that video was just a whore looking for her next trick.
i mean i feel her explanation was valid and honestly, like steve, i didn’t really see the whole roofie aspect totally.
but i will say that i think the song kinda sucked…the music and her voice just didn’t do it for me…and the dancing…i doubt a lot of pole dancers can move like that…
I agree with Steve and ryanh.
You should hop off your high horse for a moment Dewitt. This IS manhunt, think of all ths shit that is deemed hot around here(incest?) she’s guilty of bad taste in a variety of areas but don’t make this into more than what it is.
worst song and worst video. ever.
Disney sluts need to STFU and keep sucking
I have to admit the song is kinda catchy….but the video looks like it cost about 6 dollas and 50 cents…cheap!
Thank you Keily Williams for giving my ears cancer and showing me some new moves to perform in a strip club.
The song was cheap and lame, and it looked like she was trying WAY too hard to be sexy and make it work. i really enjoyed 3LW back in the day and i wouldve listened to here if she had stuck to what she was good at. I dont exactly see the roofie thing, i agree with most of the other guys that it was just a drunk fuck. oh well.
I have to agree with some of the people above. The song and video isn’t great, but in no way do I think she’s even hinting at date rape. It’s just a normal case of a girl gets hammered, hooks up and has no memory of it the next day.
