If last week was a slow week for music, this week could easily be considered the opposite. New music has been flowing out of every inch of the internet, and I had trouble deciding which tunes to include for the Wild Card round of our Weekly Top Ten. Hopefully, you’ll dig at least one of the songs I’ve chosen. And if you dont? Leave a comment to suggest something else for next week. If you don’t tell me what you want, I can’t give you what you want!
Today’s competing tracks come from Daisy Dares You, Alphabeat, Vampire Weekend and Jay-Z. As far as sounds go, it’s a pretty diverse group. Whether you like fluffy UK girl-pop or menacing hip-hop beats, there’ll be something for you. So what are you waiting for? You’ve only got one night to vote, and the clock is ticking. Daisy Dares You f/ Chipmunk – Number One Enemy: Say hello to your newest guilty pleasure. It’s like Avril Lavigne, but more British. Even though the music video may be the hundred-millionth to use an Alice In Wonderland theme, it does it well… not to mention that Chipmunk is pretty damn cute. Let’s just hope he’s more hung than an actual chipmunk!

Alphabeat – Hole In My Heart: Everyone knows that dancing is the best remedy for heartbreak, and this Danish pop sextet delivers a campy jam that’ll have you shaking your moneymaker like somebody’s ’bout to pay you. This is one of the gayest songs I’ve ever heard, despite having absolutely no “gay” lyrics. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Vampire Weekend – Cousins: Um, does anyone else want to totally bang lead singer Ezra Koenig? This indie cutie really gets my juices flowing! I’d love to bend him over and hold onto those luscious locks as I plow him. As for this song? It’s not half bad. I think it has more of a summer feeling to it, but you can still play it with the windows down (if you’re willing to freeze your ass off).

Jay-Z f/ Swizz Beatz – On To The Next One: When I posted the video for Jay-Z’s “Young Forever” last week, I was going to say something like, “His label really needs to get with the program and release a legitimately good track like ‘On To The Next One’.” Little did I know that the video would be released the following week. This song turns me into a complete dancefloor slut. I really wish you could witness my freak-nasty moves.

I don’t love the Jay-Z song, but it’s got some great imagery in it. It’s too bad more rappers can’t make videos like that.

I vote for none of them. I can’t understand half of what the British chick is saying, the Alphabeat song was blocked, Vampire Weekend had another comprehensibility problem, and I’m not a fan of rap and all it’s consistently similar lyrics about bragging, money, drinking, and dropping the N word. I will admit the imagery was cool when it wasn’t focusing on Jay-Z or Swizz Beats.

you can’t say all rap is the same; you’ve got wale, talib, kanye, common, mos def., q-tip and a bunch of other artists who’re doing different/out of the box things and aren’t getting as much attention as other more mainstream artists….
Oh, I don’t think all rap is the same…just the mainstream rap that gets the most attention/airplay.
nice, Vampire Weekend showed up. But maybe we can get music from places other than the Americas and Britain? Try out BoA, Utada Hikaru, and Puffy AmiYumi…they’re Japanese, but not all of their songs are.
