With a vote of 39-20, Mexico City lawmakers have approved a marriage equality bill, becoming the first region in Latin America to legalize gay marriage. The bill calls for changing the definition of marriage from a union between a man and a woman to "the free uniting of two people." Expectations are that Mexico City's mayor, Marcelo Ebrard, will sign the bill into law.
And yet another victory for our team! Back in 2006, Mexico City made a step in the right direction by legalizing same-sex civil unions, but now they've made the final leap into marriage territory. Who'll be next to hop on the equality train?
