During an interview for the January 30th issue of Newsweek, pop music’s greatest living treasure Madonna finally threw some shade at Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way”. Arguably, she’s done this before, and we’re sure some publicist will be rushing to say she was misquoted in no time flat… But, well, here’s the (alleged) new quote anyways:
“I thought, this is a wonderful way to redo my song (‘Express Yourself’). I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was…interesting.”
As we all know, “interesting” is a clever way of saying something is downright awful.
– Dewitt
Chord changes? I’ll show you chord changes:

That is fucking awesome, especially since I hate 90% of those songs.
I don’t really understand the appeal with Lady Gaga. All of her music sounds the same and is extremely derivative of 80s dance hall pop. Moreover, I wish the gays of the world would wise up and not continue to endorse her as a spokesperson for the community. I don’t see why we need someone to speak for us. Having a 25 year old pop tart as the symbol of the gay community makes us look really pathetic.
I thought it was “interesting” how Madonna redid Abba’s song (‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’)
Madonna had ABBA’s approval to sample “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!”.
That was great, and the little guy is a cutie!
Spacemonkey, I agree. I think it’s particular how so many gay men (of all age ranges) consider Lady Gaga the spokesperson of the gay community, when A) she isn’t gay herself, B) she’s just profitting from the community. However, a lot of gay people are quick to shun openly gay artists, for example Adam Lambert or Ricky Martin, who often get criticized for being “too gay” or the “You should’ve come out ten years ago and then I might’ve supported you” kinda deal. All in all, I think gay people need to find a better role model than her.
*Peculiar
the interview with Cynthia McFadden, on video, has better soundbites… she called it ‘reductive’ in true bitchy Madonna style we all love and miss so much…
this is just a preview of the entire thing, which I believe airs tonight on 20/20 in the US…
ST. MADONNA ..ALWAYS RIGTH…..AMEM, ALELUYA, REKUSHNA?.:)
I still don’t hear any similarities between these 2 songs….I do not hear it…
I would probably cry less if she was actually good… I don’t understand why Rufus Wainwright isn’t more respected in the gay community. He’s absolutely brilliant, sings about being gay in a tasteful way. Most importantly there’s no uh tiss uh tiss uh tiss thumping away in the background. Just once I would like to see a gay idol that didn’t sing trashy dance pop…
kd lang?
the asses you kick on the way down might be the one’s you’ll need to kiss on the way up, Ms Had Her Time In The Sun. WE ARE NOT
IMPRESSED. Either be upfront, but snotty?
It’s so un KABBALAH. It’s not wit, it’s
bitchy and bad karma, sister gurl.
Saying – love to do a duet with her – might be humbling – and a great way of making a bridge to someone who could restart your stalled caboose more then a 24 year old.
Tired old queens – Tired old divas.
What’s the difference? I am sadly disappointed when I read things like this.
