With Pride season upon us, cities all around the word are preparing for the galore of men in speedos and drag queens that follow. Now the city of Baghdad is getting it's own pride… sort of. That might seem surprising in the face of all we've written about the constant death threats, torture and assassinations the Iraqi LGBT community suffers.
But these aren't Iraqi citizens celebrating, but American embassy workers who get to throw the party under the complete safety of embassy walls. The invitation to the embassy's Pride party reads, "Come celebrate the start of Summer with color… and in costume! Dress in drag or as a gay icon. All are welcome."
I think it's great U.S workers get to celebrate but it begs the question… is it appropriate to celebrate pride while beyond the embassy walls gays are being murdered and tortured?

LMAO!!! If you don’t know who the “Gay Icons” are…you should probably NOT be going to a pride party!!
