Good news, queer cinephiles! Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film project Queer has just been picked up for distribution by A24, and it’s already shaping up to be one of our favorite (and spiciest) releases of the year!
The film is based on the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs and brings back Guadagnino’s past collaborator and Challengers screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes. With A24’s track record of unconventional characters and stories, there’s no doubt Queer is in the best hands. Not only will the film be picked up by A24, but it will also have a premiere at multiple festivals. It’s set to premiere at Venice Film Festival, while also having a North American debut at TIFF. It’s also getting a NY Film Fest Spotlight Gala.
Guadagnino, who gave us Call Me by Your Name, Bones and All, and most recently Challengers, is bringing his magic touch to another new story, this time with Daniel Craig. The story picks up at the end of Burroughs’ previous novel Junkie. In Queer, Daniel Craig stars as Lee, a man struggling with addiction, love, and his sense of self in 1950s Mexico. That’s until he meets Eugene Allerton (Outer Banks‘ Drew Starkey), a student with whom he forms a intense connection with.

Guadagnino’s ability to make films that explore difficult emotions and queer identity should be studied and we can’t wait to see him do it again!
With a powerhouse like Craig leading the cast and Guadagnino behind the camera, Queer is definitely going to be one hottest upcoming films to look out for.
