Al Sharpton was recently featured as the keynote speaker for the Human Rights Ecumenical Service at the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Atlanta this past Sunday. While speaking, Rev. Sharpton blasted churches for their support of Proposition 8.
"There is something immoral and sick about using all of that power to not end brutality and poverty, but to break into people's bedrooms and claim that God sent you. It amazes me, when I looked at California and saw churches that had nothing to say about police brutality, nothing to say when a young black boy was shot while he was wearing police handcuffs, nothing to say when they overturned affirmative action, nothing to say when people were being [relegated] into poverty, yet they were organizing and mobilizing to stop consenting adults from choosing their life partners."
Well said! This type of leadership should be more visible and is exactly what we need from every community, speaking out about the injustices we all face.

Ummm….Bumble Bee, I highly doubt the Rev. Sharp-tongue was taking sides with the gay community on Prop 8. He was suggesting that there were more pressing matters that deserved higher visibility than Prop 8. Mainly his own agenda. He has and always will be pushing the race card wherever and whenever he can..and he has done so here. Prop 8 was simply an obstruction for him. Put the confetti and boa away now.
It would have been more significant if he had bothered to use his power and connections and spoke out BEFORE the vote. Maybe it would had made a difference
