There's a reason Florence Welch has been compared to '80s icon Kate Bush. Their vocal styles may be on entirely different pages, but both artists have a penchant for crafting epic tracks that grab you by the shirt and demand attention. This is especially demonstrated on at least two of Florence + The Machine's singles, "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" and "Drumming Song", and it remains true throughout the entire debut album Lungs.
In the age of iTunes, it seems as if the art of the album has become a thing of the past. Few musicians succeed at creating a sincere, cohesive piece of work. Florence Welch isn't one of those musicians. She's not just a singer; she's an artist. And while it'd probably be an overstatement to say that Lungs is a classic, it's at least reminiscent of the days when people still made classic albums.
