Before there was Sasha Fierce, "This Is How We Do It" singer Montell Jordan split his fourth studio album (Get It On…Tonite) into two separate sides. The upbeat first half was intended for sweaty, bed-breaking sex, while the second half of slow jams was crafted for passionate love-making.
Though I would normally scoff at this sort of sequencing, Robin Thicke's Sex Therapy could benefit from a similar format. The R&B crooner decided to depart from the disco-inspired energy of his last project to experiment with a variety of new sounds. And while it's great to hear him branching out and all, there's no denying that this set is all over the place.
The lead single "Sex Therapy" is a winner for sure, guaranteed to make your clothes melt off. But unfortunately, the second half of the album is packed with slow jams so boring that they could be elevator muzak. The Jazmine Sullivan-assisted "Million Dolla Baby" is one of the few that won't put you to sleep.
It's also one of the few times that Thicke isn't upstaged by his guest artist. This is a common theme throughout the album from Jay-Z on "Meiple" to Kid Cudi on "Elevatas", and it's most apparent on "Shakin' It 4 Daddy". Newcomer Nicki Minaj doesn't just upstage Thicke on the track; she pretty much upstages his entire album. Her two verses are hands down the most exciting thing you'll hear on Sex Therapy. Now, um, when does her album come out?

I like Robin Thicke’s album. I was a little put off that he strayed from the formula that he did for his other albums but it was an experiment and it was good.
He’s cool. Plus he is really hot. Paula Patton is a lucky lady.
damn that review shut him down, I had to check on that Nicki Minaj track. He is hot, but check out the long haired original incarnation of him, that wasn’t!!! A haircut has never done more for a man, ever!
