With many of DC’s upcoming movies still at an early stage, there wasn’t much that the filmmakers involved could really reveal. Aquaman director James Wan is working towards making the sequel, and all he could really do is talk up the tone for his new film. Hint? The drum-playing octopus could be in trouble.
According to Wan, the follow-up to the 2018 hit, things will take a less OTT turn. “I think the second one is a little bit more serious, a little bit more relevant in the world we are living in today. I think that’s where it wants to go,” said Wan.
Jason Momoa was Sir Not Appearing At This Panel, but Wan did corral Patrick Wilson, who shared memories of working on the first film as the scheming Orm Marius, who goes by the egotistical title of Ocean Master. Lots of costume talk was involved.
Orm seems certain to be back for the new one, and Wilson expressed a hope for new worlds. “I can definitely guarantee you new worlds in this next one and I think you’re going to be very excited as an actor,” Wan promised.
Aquaman 2 is scheduled to swim up in December 2022.
