Ariana Grande & Mac Miller: “The Way”

The Mariah Carey comeback track you’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived!

Before you splooge yourself furiously in anticipation of the very special occasion known as Mimi’s re-emancipation, I should probably clarify that this isn’t a Mariah Carey song at all. It just sounds exactly like something she would have put out during her Butterfly or Rainbow eras.

“The Way” is a new single from 19 year-old Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande, who showed post-Disney bitches like Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato who’s boss by skyrocketing to the top of the iTunes charts yesterday afternoon. It’s a playful R&B-laced pop track that largely relies on a sample from Brenda Russell‘s “A Little Bit of Love” (more popularly known from the late Big Punisher‘s 1998 hit “Still Not A Player“), featuring a pair of guest verses by scruffy rapper Mac Miller that are somewhere between endearingly goofy and downright awful.

Overall, the lyrics are pretty ridiculous, the music video is offensively low budget, and yet this somehow gets a pass for being the most fun song pop music’s had to offer in years. Embrace the guilty pleasure! You might get hooked.

  1. Agreed about the Mariah Carey-esque Butterfly/Rainbow era. Spot on! Not a bad song either.

  2. No way Mariah would never come out with this song. It’s not R&B enough plus Mariah voice is no way this week. It sound more like a Mariah wanna be track like Jessica Simpson would come out with
