Aural Only: Everybody Hurts

Everybody Hurts, Haiti

So what does everybody think about the "Everybody Hurts" charity single that Simon Cowell produced for Haiti? The R.E.M. cover features an all-star line-up with Susan Boyle, Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams, Jon Bon Jovi, Miley Cyrus, Cheryl Cole and several other artists lending their voices for the cause.

While I'm glad that these celebs took a moment to do something good for the world, I have absolutely no desire to listen to this song again. But that's just me! If you're into this, you can pre-order the single from Amazon for $12.98. It's pricey because it's an import, but at least it's for a good cause, right?

  1. Who knew it was possible to drain every single drop of emotion out of such a gut-wrenching song? This is supposed to be a charity song to benefit the victims of a terrible disaster. Show a little emotion with your voices. Even Mariah, who loves to do runs…and runs OFF OF runs, sang like someone was pointing a gun to her head and telling her she’d better keep her voice in check. What did Simon do, invite Tommy Mottola into the recording studio? The only singer who didn’t seem to phone it in was Robbie Williams…and that may have only been because the backing music rose to a fever pitch during his part of the song. Dewitt and I don’t always agree when it comes to music, but I have to agree that I have absolutely no interest in hearing this again. Don’t get me wrong. I hope it raises a lot of money to help Haitians who are in need. But as a cover song, it stinks. I have a sinking feeling it’s going to be just as horrible as this is, but I hope the We Are The World remake is better.

  2. ehm. i dont like it.
the video is too unpleasant to watch.
    too much suffering included.
and the song sounds so so as well.

  3. Ummm, “too much suffering”?
I’m sorry that Haiti people’s reality is not enough for your dinner entertainment.
This is what has been happening and still happens in Haiti every day. If you don’t like to acknowledge it, put on your rose-colored sunglasses and go sip on a $10 cocktail and turn a blind eye like so many people do.
If it’s too unpleasant, what are you doing to help fix it?

  4. the intro is wrong, haiti isn’t an island, it’s just on an island with a different name. get yo’ facts straight.

  5. No mention of cutie Mika in the text? At least give some credit to one of the few (out) stars who play for our team!

  6. asinine post aside, think about how lucky we are and then give to a charity to help haiti.
