If you’re not familiar with Jill Scott‘s extensive and critically-acclaimed R&B catalogue, then there’s a chance you may know her from “that song Mercedes performed one time on Glee”. Sad but true! Either way, her latest single “Shame” has been making the rounds, and it’s packed with a healthy dose of ol’ school flavor.
Seriously, does anyone get the sense that she’s channeling Aretha Franklin on this jam? Those vocals are out of this world. Throw in a sample of Special Ed‘s “I’m The Magnificent” and a guest verse by fellow Philly native Eve, and you’ve got the perfect first addition to your summer 2011 playlist.

I love Jill Scott ever since her first CD, and this tune is one of her best ever!
it would have been better had it ended after two minutes.
BTAIM, I’m surprised that you didn’t mention The Spinners “Its a Shame” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHXFOUQBRHE) , which is what Scott is riffing off of here.
