The first single from Mary J. Blige‘s upcoming album Stronger with Each Tear featured the queen of hip-hop soul delving into dangerous territory. “The One” found the R&B diva exploring the ever-popular Auto-Tune trend, despite having a voice that definitely doesn’t need it. Fans weren’t very happy about this development, and even a verse from one of the industry’s hottest up-and-coming rappers couldn’t save the song.
Thankfully, Blige and her team decided to tone it down for her second single “I Am”. Written by Johntá Austin and produced by Stargate, the song isn’t exactly groundbreaking when compared to Mary’s classic hits, but she definitely pulls it off with her strong vocals. Is anyone else loving this as much as “I Am”? Sorry, I just couldn’t resist that one.
