Aural Only: Robyn Does Björk

Summer isn’t technically over for a few more weeks, but this weekend marks the symbolic close of the season. Obviously, this means our quest for the 2010 Song of Summer will soon come to an end, with the final round taking place tomorrow afternoon. Hmm, I wonder who’ll be this year’s winner?

Never mind that! We’re much more concerned with the artists who were overlooked in the past couple of months, and Swedish pop sensation Robyn is at the top of that list. Her singles “Dancing On My Own” and “Hang With Me” rocked our socks off, and we’re still sad they didn’t perform as well on the Weekly Top Ten.

If you need further proof that Robyn is talented as fuck, check out this video of her covering Björk‘s “Hyperballad”. The Icelandic singer was honored at the Polar Prize Festival in Stockholm, and this blond beauty stepped in to pay tribute to her. Check out the clip, and let us know what you think!

  1. this was beautiful. I love Bjork cause she makes music for love of making it , and just seeing how Robyn performed this was how I would hoped someone would do a Bjork song. Really making the lyrics take life and bringing the bit of rawness. I think Bjork was happy and so am I, I wish they would sell this as a single for Robyn I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

  2. I feel she didn’t do the song much justice. The emotion Bjork carries with her into her songs is what gives them life. I haven’t heard much Robyn so I don’t have know how her personality is on stage but maybe she shouldve tried a more dynamic approach.

  3. I really wanted to like this, and I kinda did… that is until I want back and watched the original — compare it to “Bjork live hyperbalad” on utube

Bjork’s version made me cry (no rips please) — all l that raw emotion and soaring vocals. this Robin didn’t even come close– no wonder Bjork looks like she wants to take a swing at her.

BTW the music video version is amazing too–check it out!

  4. …this is my favorite Bjork song too…she does a version with the Brodsky Quartet the is breathtaking…Robyn does it justice but Bjork knows the true feeling of the song…I think she is the most overlooked composer/ song writer/singers out there today…genius often is!!!…Thank you for posting this, Dewitt…

  5. I’m not impressed one bit, if anything Robyn is ruining the song :O. It’s just no where close to Björk not in talent or emotion portrayed.

  6. I LOVE you people for all of your comments! Robyn has some talent, yes! But Björk is definitely an orginal. And of all the covers I’ve ever seen people perform of hers, it’s never done anything any justice anywhere. Björk has to be an alien, because she is out of this world! No one can even compare to getting close to her music! The close as anyone would ever come would be by doing a duet with her! I’ve been rocking out to her music since 7th grade and I’m 25 now! Her music has never gotten old to me nor will it ever! It was so ahead of it’s time and that’s just AWESOME! I’m sonstantly defending her agaist my friends who thinks she’s just horrible. She is a TRUE artist who actually stick her ams all the way up her her elbows in her music!

  7. Robyn can literally do NO wrong. This included. I would probably go straight for her … and that’s saying a lot, lol

  8. Oh. Lord… Talent? Not in the singer or the writer! Yeah… Even this brought me to tears. But certainly weren’t happy tears!
