Aural Only: Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings

Move over, Duffy! Your feeble attempts at channeling a retro-soul vibe are nothing next to Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. The group’s fourth album I Learned The Hard Way came out back in April, and it’s not receiving nearly enough attention. Seriously, do people even appreciate real talent?

Perhaps we should ask Ke$ha for the answer to that question. Or we could just listen to Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings’ excellent new single “If You Call”. I’d say they don’t make pop songs like this anymore, except… clearly, they do!

  1. She’s got a great voice no doubt, but I’m just not feeling this nor any of the other songs by her (them) that you’ve posted about…

  2. You should listen to “100 Days, 100 Nights” – it’s FANTASTIC!!! I love SJ&TDK!!!!! She has the most wonderful, deep, soulful voice, just gets me “right here.”

  3. More, please, more, more, more!!!! I just traveled back to the 60’s and the 70’s and oh, was it GOOD!!! I love you, Miss Jones. You have the “Soul Sound” I love. You have made this white boy very, very happy and the chills I’m getting now tell me I’m gonna be looking up some more of your music!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  4. Thank you, Dewitt, for the introduction to Miss Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. What a voice!

  5. Hahahaha… it’s nice to see some real music getting on here!
The album’s are great, but seeing her live is something else entirely. She’s beyond amazing on stage!
