For those who aren’t in the know, The New Pornographers are an indie band from Canada, and there isn’t very much about them that could be classified as pornographic. Oh, don’t look so disappointed! If you want to see some guy’s balls slapping against another dude’s taint, you can find plenty of that over here. Got it? Good!
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about the group’s new single “Moves”. In particular, let’s discuss the ridiculous music video, which stars a handful of comedians and actors you may (or may not) recognize. The whole clip is set up like a fake movie trailer, and it kicks off with a preview for another fake movie with Paul Rudd and SNL‘s Bill Hader.
Believe it or not, things somehow manage to get weirder after the “now we’re both seven months pregnant” premise of Expectant Dads. We wound up doing a double take at least seventeen times. Wait, isn’t that Scott Adsit from 30 Rock? Donald Glover from Community? Wyatt Cenac of The Daily Show? The Cat Whisperer lady as Neko Case? Horatio Sanz? Um, Ted Leo in fucking drag?
The answer was always “yes”. Even if you don’t recognize these names, you might be familiar with their faces. Not that you need to be to enjoy this video! Arguably, the song stands on its own, and it didn’t require a gimmick like this to prove that it rocks. But it can’t hurt, eh?
