The SoundScan numbers are out, and Barbra Streisand's latest album Love Is The Answer flew off the shelves with 180,415 copies sold. You know what else? She also has the number one album in America, beating out sales figures for both Paramore and Mariah Carey.
With their diva in third place, what are Mimi's loyal lambs going to do? Well, they can remain hopeful for Carey's upcoming Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel remix album. Or they could play up the praise she's been getting for her role in the film Precious. Perhaps they could blame the debilitating state of the record industry? No matter what the case may be, it's still a dark day for Mariah Carey fanboys. We send our condolences.

I wonder if this is so much because of the power of Barbra’s fans or the fact that Barbra’s fans are generally older and have yet to move to purchasing their music in online .mp3 formats, whether on iTunes, Amazon, or elsewhere.
Also, beyond the gays, Barbra has a big fan base amongst the women of her generation: the Baby Boomers. Lots of people have probably bought Grandma’s Christmas/Hanukkah/etc. present with this purchase.
Who is that chick?
Barbara like Whitney have proved that they do not need radio who continually play utter garbage to play their records. So many artist right now are hyped and may have hit singles (whatever that means these days)but can not move CD units. Barbara fan base knows they are going to get a quality product and will just go out and purchase her CD. Mariah’s problem is that she tried to be relavant and in the process she has lost her older fanbase (her Cd cover alone would turn them off) and the fanbase that she so desperately wanted to be accpeted by has abondoned her for the newly relevant artist. Sad, Mariah needs to remember she is grown ass woman! Go Whitney & Barbara!
FYI…. Barbra now becomes the only person in history to top the charts in 5 decades.
