Joseph Kosinski is a man who knows a thing or two about things that go real fast. From the lightcycles of Tron: Legacy to the Boeing Super Hornets of Top Gun: Maverick, the filmmaker does indeed have a need — a need for speed. And with his latest movie, upcoming Apple Original Films and Warner Bros. blockbuster F1, Kosinski is taking Brad Pitt and Damson Idris with him for a high-octane thrill ride in the unpredictable world of — you guessed it! — Formula 1. So buckle up, start your engines, make sure you’ve got your travel bands handy, and check out the full trailer for the fastest film of 2025 below;
Phew! Hold. On. A. Sec— Sorry, we just needed to catch our breath there for a second because HOLY SMOKES — Kosinski’s only gone and done it again. Shot in collaboration with Formula 1 at various Grands Prix around the world, and boasting real-time cockpit footage of Pitt’s Sonny “The best there never was” Hayes and Idris’ pole position seeking rookie Joshua Pearce flying round actual F1 tracks at speeds of 180mph, there’s no doubt that Kosinski’s newest piece of pure adrenaline rush cinema is revving up to be quite the spectacle. But as we see in this first proper look at what the film has in store, set to Fleetwood Mac classic ‘The Chain’ (surely a loving nod to the BBC’s old F1 broadcast theme), there’s real human drama here too as Kosinski returns to the well of exploring legacy, loss, evolution, and the pursuit of second chances and fresh starts with a stacked ensemble featuring Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Javier Bardem.
And here’s the official synopsis: “Dubbed “the greatest that never was,” Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was FORMULA 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.”
Shot with custom-built cameras at legendary tracks around the world, boasting the Hans Zimmer on scoring duties, and featuring a cast absolutely rammed with top-tier talent, F1 is already gearing up to be quite the summer blockbuster. We’ll catch you out on the asphalt — or, more likely, in the multiplex (IMAX, naturally) — when F1 releases in cinemas on 25 June. Vroom vroom!
