Pride season can be depressing when you realize that most American celebrations center around getting drunk and hooking up with random sexy strangers. Those are activities I could partake in on any damn weekend, so there’s clearly only one way I can enjoy this time of year—I need to hop on a plane and travel to China.
I’m not sure why I’ve decided ShanghaiPRIDE is inherently better than most other pride celebrations. It might just be these pictures our Manhunt rep sent me from last year’s festivities. Everyone looks like they’re having so much fun! Sure, they might be getting drunk and hooking up with random sexy strangers, but the bottom line is, they appear to be extremely excited to be celebrating LGBT culture.
The sixth annual ShanghaiPRIDE kicks off in a mere 16 days, boasting such activities as a pride run, a pride picnic, art exhibitions, trivia night, panel discussions and opening/closing parties. Under the theme “Better Together”, each activity will serve to celebrate our community’s diversity, strengthen our bond and spread the universal messages of acceptance and equal love.
If you’re intrigued, head over here for more details! Even if you can’t make it this year—which, admittedly, I cannot despite what the title of this blog post suggests—you can always follow ShanghaiPRIDE on Twitter to plan ahead for next year’s festivities… Or, you know, just browse the site and get a sense of what gay pride’s like across the globe.
