Chris Brown Faked It For Michael Jackson

You may have heard about Chris Brown getting a little emotional at the 2010 BET Awards. The singer teared up during a tribute performance for Michael Jackson, and now everyone from Queen Latifah to Jermaine Jackson is urging the public to forgive him.

I’m not sure how crying on stage “redeems” you for beating the crap out of your ex-girlfriend, but that’s not the point here. Have you heard the claims that Brown may have faked it? Allegedly, someone backstage witnessed the singer rubbing tear-inducing drops into his eyes, and the source leaked this information to US Weekly.

Obviously, Brown’s publicist has denied the claims, stating that he was simply “moved by the opportunity to pay tribute to his idol.” But when it all comes down to it, does it even matter if he faked it or not? In my opinion, there isn’t really much he could do to redeem himself. Though he could start by issuing a sincere apology…

  1. WHATEVER!!! NEXT!!! I don’t care if it was real or fake! His dancing didn’t even touch Michael’s talent. This man is a mess, a loser, and I really hate seeing his face.

  2. On an honest tip, love your column and sense of humor, Dewitt; always makes me laugh and I look forward to reading it everyday. That being said, I have to take issue with your reluctance to release the anger you have about what happened between Chris Brown and Rihanna. Everyone makes mistakes and true, not each mistake is a violent one but everyone is deserving of a second chance, regardless if their idea of an apology meets the measure of our expectations. nature will always win out and if his apology is not legit, it will be discovered. To continuously beat this particular drum kinda reinforces the right for people to beat similar ones as well; i.e., gays in the military, gay marriage, pride parades, transsexual “deviancy”, self-serving bisexuality, etc. Do they have a valid point because there’s no violence involved or is because the argument against their views is based on analysis, reasoning and a request for compassion. If it’s the latter, let’s be bigger, better and hopeful that someone, anyone, can obtain a better understanding and empathy. Allow them to move on; time will tell if we made the right decision. To not do so is sooo…Un-American ;c)

  3. I Love Chris Brown and think he is the best male performer out there. I did have a moment where i was angry at him for the whole Rihanna thing but its time to move on and give him a second chance. Even though i know Chris is in love with Michael, in all i dont care if those were real or fake tears, he had the best performance of the night. The best MJ tribute so far.

  4. There is a saying that is common amongst law enforcement, emergency medical services and social services.

ONCE A WIFE BEATER – ALWAYS A WIFE BEATER!

It DOES NOT change or go away and it is NEVER just a mistake. I spent far too many years dealing with battered, tortured and even murdered spouses to ever give someone a second chance in this arena.

FUCK HIM, he is trash. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was coached by the Hollywood Sleeze Factory on how to appear more “human” by showing “pain” and “emotion.”

And for those who feel sorry for him and continue to support him – think about the message you’re sending to the youth. Yes, you too can beat the crap out of another human being, and not truly pay for it. Ask Halle Barry…

  5. Okay, not that it’s up to me to forgive Chris Brown or not, and I certainly think he’s an asshat for hitting a woman but why is no one calling out Rihanna for hitting HIM? Why is it okay for a woman to hit a man in anger? It’s never okay to hit ANYONE but in self defense.

  6. His PR people are working over time to fix the problem he caused.

As a child I witness the severe spousal abuse of my mother, much like what Chris did to Rihanna. The pain that lingers from that is huge, so as far as I am concerned Chris Brown is on my permanent shit list.

Where were these tears when he was “apologizing” for beating his girlfriend? Furthermore, what do these tears have to do with the fight and that horrible situation? EVERYBODY cries when someone you care about dies.

  7. now, i’ve loved michael jackson for 20 years, and i’m going to say that, as far as what’s out there today, there is no one who could have done that dance tribute better.

yes, i understand that chris brown did what he did, but my question is now, and has always been, does that mean that suddenly he’s a bad dancer, or a bad singer? to what degree does a person have to apologize for something he’s done to go back to being judged for his work as a performer? i believe the emotion of this performance. it’s obviously a combination of his deep affection for michael jackson and his very real remorse for what he did to rihanna.

it doesn’t “redeem” him for doing it, but it’s been over a year. let the guy dance. let him do what he’s good at. if he wants forgiveness, he doesn’t need to apologize to me. he needs to talk to rihanna, his mama, and God.

  8. I do not know what approach 2 take regarding Chris Brown there is that part of me that wants him 2 make a successful come back and than there that part of me that says he has not paid enough and there lies my dilemma is he worthy of a 2ND chance ? My heart & soul says yes but my conscious continue 2 remind me that N cemeteries across this country & around the world lies Women & Children who where VICTIMS of people like Chris Brown whom society continue 2 give a 2ND chance & so only time will tell is he ( Chris Brown ) worthy of a 2ND chance ?

  9. Saw the performance and it was amazing to say the least. THIS is THE performance that everyone has been waiting to see since Michael passed. He really did Michael justice in a major way.

Honestly, idc if the tears were real or not and i’ve truely forgotten about the fiasco from last year. Let the young man earn a living and entertain the money. Don’t see people blogging about all the money that he has donated through out his career or the charity performances that he has given.

Strangely people didn’t get this upset with Charlie Sheen who actually has a history of shooting women, injecting cocaine and assaulting women as well…. Why is one worth than the other?

  10. All these guys that are so contrite after they do horrible and illegal things to others and not just women. Only Rhianna need forgive him, we can all judge him especially because we wouldn’t do what he has done and hate the fact that now he is trying to gain some sympathy. Not happening Mr Brown, once trash ALWAYS trash. You loose!

  11. Only God can forgive and we the people can judge all we want. But I can’t help but think that if it wasn’t the fact that this was a young black man….this would not have dragged out this way.

I don’t think he owes us an apology as the public either, he broke the law..like many before and after, we all saw the pics/aftermath, but how much is enough on his part.

Time to move on…Plenty of celebrities have done that and worse, with their careers intact.

  12. To BigDaddy007: how did you turn a discussion of Chris Brown to your apparent hobby horse of gay bashing? What’s going on inside you? What drum do you beat?

  13. Chris who?!?!?
And @Carlos: Really?!?! Do we have to make THIS a race issue too!?!? SHUT UP!! Your kind of whining around does NOT help your cause! SHUT THE F UP!!!!

  14. DeWitt, you kinda, no, make that REALLY, need to stop the Chris Brown bashing. It’s pretty well documented that Rihanna was (still is, I guess) a spoiled, arrogant b**ch who is quite skilled at antagonizing the people she comes into close contact with. Rumor was at the time said she was really on the tear with Chris Brown that night and possibly went too far with the nasty put-downs. You get in someones face enough to get them started with you, and sometimes they lose it entirely. It doesn’t justify nearly killing her but let’s put this in context. You play with the bull and sometimes you get gored. And then you have to take some of the blame on yourself for the consequences.

  15. Just how many chances does a criminal get? What of the victims of violence who weren’t given a chance to live a long life because some criminal was given that second chance at life…only to kill again? All the rehab and social programs in the world can’t change a murderer. One could argue that if only one criminal’s life is changed, one could call it a success. Yet for that one success story, how many criminals have failed by repeating their crimes…

  16. So many critical people on here. I really cringe anytime I see a post featuring a black guy, cause I never know how the comments are gonna read. All of the sexual things that are talked about and overwhelmingly approved of on here, yet alot of you are so quick to condemn Chris? Get over it.

  17. Whether Rhianna is a Grand-Dame-Bitch or not, that does not justify physical violence – EVER.

I didn’t put any comments in about her before since this was about Chris.

Regardless of how we think or feel, the only thing we really have control over in this world is how we respond to and treat others.

Bad Chris – no bone. Bad Rhianna, too. I’ll NEVER support either of them by ever purchasing their albums or the piles of crap they market to the youth who idolize these spoiled pieces of trash.

BTW – a racial thing? Once a celeb of any color pulls crap like this I refuse to give them the time of day. And why is it that PeeWeeHerman/Paul Rubens spanked the monkey and choked the chicken and found himself blacklisted, while these spoiled brats can beat the living crap out of others and still keep record deals, appearance contracts, etc. Bizarre world we live in. Bizarre!

  18. A court of law supports the argument for the public to condemn or pity Brown. Should his fame or looks exempt him from being fairly criticized? After all, it was Brown’s own undoing. So whether the public chooses to forgive him or not, both sides are fair to stand by their reasons.

  19. If the fish had hit him, it would be all over television, etc. and be thought of as funny, with NO legal ramifications whatsoever — he hits her, he’s a social pariah. Have many double standards? Hell, take the ugly fish out — who cares?

  20. Your logic fails you, Mike. You’d better believe it that Rhianna would have faced charges. Why did Brown not press charges himself if this was the case? Oh yeah, something about a photo of her with a split lip or a partially bruised face. Oh yeah, he’d win in court. Not.

Using “fish” to describe a gender is as equally telling of your bias against women and not just one person. The only double standard here is your use of bigotry in making a point. Silly gay man.

  21. Growing up with a an abusive Father like I did, makes what he did to Rihanna hit a little closer to home. While I do feel bad that doing what he did has probably ruined his career for good or at least for a long time, at such a young age, in the end it is his own fault, and I don’t really feel that he should be forgiven by the public. Why? Because the moment we start forgiving these kind of actions, the more it will happen. It will be like saying that just because he’s talented it’s ok to beat up your girlfriend, because we like your music and will support you anyway. That isn’t the right message to send here. He needs to know it was horrible and that he has probably ended his career, so that other will hopefully get the message as well, and think twice before taking the same course of action.
