Ellen Gets Sued!

Ellen DeGeneres, Barack Obama Dancing

Ellen DeGeneres may be riding high from her new gig as the 4th American Idol judge, but it's not all good news for her as her talk show faces a massive lawsuit for copyright infringement.

One of the best parts of Ellen's show is when she dances her heart out to pop hits. Turns out they may not have gotten the permission of the record companies to play these songs. When Ellen's producers were fronted with the lawsuit, they reportedly replied that they "don't roll that way". Okay, that's a hilarious response but the record companies didn't think so and replied:

"As sophisticated consumers of music, Defendants knew full well that, regardless of the way they rolled, under the Copyright Act, and under state law for the pre-1972 recordings, they needed a license to use the sound recordings lawfully."

Ouch! I guess they'll have to start rolling that way, or pay up!

  1. that is so ridiculous, can’t the record companies just take that as free advertisement of the music?

  2. No, people hear songs everyday, but that doesn’t equate to sales.
It’s all about the Benjamins baby.
I agree, it’s kind of ridiculous, but the law regarding this is pretty clear.
Looks like they’re gonna pay, or no more dancing for her!

  3. I’m not that fussed on Ellen – too cocky, plus I’d like to see her wear a nice frock and heels sometime.

  4. yeah, get the bitch! copyrights are copyrights – they protect the creators of music from others taking credit or “earning” money from unauthorized use.
