Go ahead! Clown Fantasia Barrino for whatever you want—her romantic life, her literacy, her questionable fashion choices or the mere fact that she’s not as successful as fellow American Idol winners Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood.
At the end of the day, she’s still a fantastic singer. There’s a reason she won the third season of Idol! She was able to connect to the music on an emotional level, not just belt songs out like Jennifer Hudson or Christina Aguilera. She channeled her own struggles into her delivery, resulting in a raw and thoroughly sincere performance.
Why am I dwelling so much on the past? Because I truly believe that Fantastia’s never been given a song that’s worthy of her talent. Now, don’t get me wrong! I enjoy every track from “I’m Doin’ Me” to “When I See U“, “Baby Makin’ Hips” to “Bittersweet“… But, as a vocalist, I think she can do something bigger and better.
“Lose To Win” is a step in the right direction. The Commodores-sampling production introduces us to the new, self-described “rock soul” sound of ‘Tasia’s fourth studio album. While it’s not quite the song I’ve been waiting for all these years, it gives me hope that it’ll get here sooner rather than later.

Love Commodores’ “Night Shift” and this is better than her past efforts, I guess, but in the end, I think just hearing “Night Shift’ again would be more satisfying.
I really like it!! I’ve been a fan of hers since her AI days, and like her poppier sounding tracks…they really allow the beauty of her vocals to shine through.
