Flashback Friday: Richard Dubois

Dick Dubois

And now for something completely different! Today’s edition ofย Flashback Friday goes back further than the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and early ’00s content you’re used to seeing in this series. Thanks to a tip from our colleague Diego, our eyes have now collided with vintage male pinup model Richard Dubois (also known as Dick Dubois, a name I prefer for obvious reasons).

This guy’s brand of handsomeness is classic. Honestly, I had to do a double take while looking at some of these pics, because I thought they were snatched directly from the pages of an Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue. Check ’em out! The one with the towel is my favorite.

  1. classic says it all, dewitt. I’m bogsmacked and my legs are pinned behind my ears on hello! And I call myself a top. How fickle when inspired!

  2. Flashback Fridays is one of my favorite features on this blog. I love seeing images of male beauty and homoeroticism from earlier times. They make me feel connected with gay things past and remind me of what we as gay men have collectively experienced–good and bad–over time.

  4. Hey Dewitt,

    Some additional info on Dick…

Dick became a winner of the bodybuilder’s ‘Mr. America’ and ‘Mr. USA’ in
    the mid-1950s.

He then graduated to the movies as Richard Sabre, supporting Debbie
Reynolds and Jane Powell in the 1954 MGM ‘Athena’ …and Mae West in her stage
act in Las Vagas and elsewhere.

But there was even more. As Richard Du Bois, he took on Pentecostal
evangelism as pastor at the Gospel Lighthouse in West Los Angeles. For 19 years.
Sadly there seem to be no pictures of this last and perhaps most dramatic phase
of his life – where he was known for communing with extraterrestrials. Now that
really would’ve been a great movie role.

  5. As an evangelist he was vehemently anti-gay…but was a different era. Ironic thFough since he was an early gay for pay model/celebrity before it became a huge industry.

  6. I love it when a model smiles, none of that duck face posing they do nowadays ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I’ve always been a DuBois fan. He’s old enough to be our grandfather, but in his pictures, he’s forever young.

  9. His facial features remind me of Ken Olandt, who played a young stripper/student in the Mark Harmon movie “Summer School”. Mr. Dubois has a much more fully packed body, though . . . and those trunks look mighty packed as well.
