Back in 2010, Teen Vogue ran an article that asked the following question: “Is a GBF (Gay Best Friend) the New Must-Have Accessory for Teen Girls?” Now, three years later, a new film starring openly gay actors Paul Iacono and The United States of Tara‘s Michael J. Willett will ask the very same question (albeit, in a way that suggests it’s a parody of the original article).
The flick in question, appropriately titled G.B.F., includes a supporting cast of Megan Mullally, Natasha Lyonne, Horatio Sanz, JoJo and Rebecca Gayheart. The trailer shows some promise here—as if the involvement of Mulllaly and Lyonne weren’t enough—and we might be convinced to see it when it gets a wider release.
Thoughts?

Love the line: “You don’t EVEN sound like the ones on Bravo!”
Looks like it might be cute, especially if it pokes fun at gay stereotypes while filling out the characters…….not too clear from this clip if that`s the case, though. This clip does`nt make me automatically anti…….I`d definitely be interested to see where it goes.
Would be incredibly offensive if it were moderately satirical.
Being from Salt Lake and raised Mormon, love the reference to the Mormon guy….I find it interesting that 50 percent of missionaries that come home from their missions end up coming out 6 months later….Its like the Mormon church has a gay breeder farm that they arent telling any one about…LOL…..(Maybe that should be the next movie produced… The secret lives of returned missionaires, and the families they came from…). Isnt it interesting how many million of dollars the LDS church pumped into getting Prop 8 passed…. The movie is very typical of all the Eating Out movies and others produced about gay relationships….I am sure it will be fun to see….
A really good satirical film about this fad would definitely be something I’d be interested in watching. Not sure if this is that film, but I’m open to it.
OMG I need to see this
MUST SEE!!!
I wish people would have been jumping up and down and squealing with delight when I came out. I’m thrilled that such a movie is being made but not sure that I’m the target demographic for it so of course I’ll wait until it comes out on DVD…and there aren’t many other options in the Redbox. Still, more power to them.
It looks fun, maybe… light… But I get really tired of the whole stereotype thing. I would be happy to have the film play with the stereotypes if there were maybe a random gay guy that was completely not a stereotype at all as well. Or maybe if the point of the movie were that all of the stereotype stuff was actually mostly fake for the characters.
Plus, maybe worth mentioning that I AM the target audience – 17 year old gay teen haha
