We mentioned previously that Equality California has launched a grassroots campaign to overturn the state’s gay marriage ban. Well, they’re wasting no time getting the ball rolling! Two new television ads have debuted, featuring real families telling their stories.
The commercials have a “Gay families–they’re just like US!” vibe, targeted at the straight folks. They bring their kids to Denny’s for Moons Over My Hammy! They shop for prom dresses! They read to their children! They push their kids on swings! Thankfully, it’s not as blatant as that, and I believe these will really help change the minds of previous Proposition 8 supporters.

For the second ad of the campaign, follow the JUMP:
Marriage is for Heterosexuals we need to respect them and get something else for our unions. The gay/straight relationships are not the same and never will be. The emotions are the same but the dynamic is different.
What exactly is gained by gay marriage other than some nominal tax benefits? I’m all for taxation equality – let’s put everyone at the married rate.
I sure as hell won’t be looking at marriage should it be available – any partner benefit (medical decisions, etc) can be given via power of attorney.
I am not an activist but not a pacifist either. Unfortunately I think the vast majority of us have no clue what the agenda is … after seeing it being able to be out in the open and be treated with kindness and respect, then it was pushed by “an acceptable alternate lifestyle” … once that was entrenched now it’s “gay marriage”.
Looks like those pushing this agenda have something more. Once we get to “gay marriage”, what’s next? We know there will be something! I’m simply tired of the activists creating one more demand and issue.
Here’s why equal marriage rights are important. Because separate is NOT equal. Relegating our unions to another name or title inherently declares that we are not truly equal. The only way to have true equality is to have equality in rights and in the name of our unions!
Carter, equality comes in steps. Marriage, benefits, anti-discrimination job laws… it didn’t come all at once for the black movement and it will not come all at once for us. They are still fighting, and we will be too, for a long time. That is why there is always something new.
And the dynamic of EVERY marriage is different, straight or gay there are all kinds of married couples and dynamics. It is no reason not to be married, Ron.
