There has been a lot of news on the gay marriage front in the last couple of days.
In Vermont, gay marriage is looking more and more likely. The first state in the U.S to allow civil unions is now considering full out marriage and the legislature is set to vote on the issue in the next few weeks. State Senator Peter Shumlin says, "Passing this bill is the right thing to do at this time."
Minnesota is also considering same-sex marriage, as legislators introduce a bill calling marriage a contract between "two persons."
And in terms of Proposition 8, the general consensus of those who watched the Supreme Court hearings yesterday is that the court is likely to uphold the ban. The fate of the 18,000 marriages on the other hand is uncertain, and some have said the court will likely allow those marriages to remain legal. In other words, they're splitting the baby on this one and a 2010 ballot initiative asking California voters to reconsider is likely to happen. A final decision from the court is expected within 90 days.
