I’m in a fraternity… never had brother to brother time with anyone in my fraternity, though one of them has tried. But I have definitely had some good times with guys in other fraternities.

Fraternities are different from chapter to chapter. I’ve been to my share of Fraternity parties and the most I’ve seen has been a few guys who get a little touchy but that’s about it. I wish some were like the ones mentioned above.

As a former frat boy myself, I’m reading some of these stories with absolute shock. My house was really strong on the brotherhood aspect of things, and somewhat homophobic as well. During Rush one year, we had a very nice and very handsome young man rush who, as it turned out, was openly gay—that nixed his chances. I remember asking during voting if there was anything else wrong with him, and the consensus was that if he had been straight, he’d have been a no-brainer for acceptance. I was still coming to terms with my sexuality at that time, and so for me there wasn’t much conflict other than the sorrow that this very nice, intelligent man would not be joining my fraternity.
As I look back now, I can honestly say that while many of my brothers were hot, I would not now and especially then (even if we’d both been openly gay) sleep with them. They’re my brothers, even if not in a family sense, and I cannot imagine crossing that line.
Strangely enough, though, it is one of those things I fantasize about from time to time, and I know it’s almost as much of a cliche to the porn industry as the uniform or the locker room. I wonder if a sort of incest taboo breaking thing is involved?
I am a current undergrad at a very large university with a huge Greek system (we have 43 fraternities and 22 sororities) and I am in a fairly prominent fraternity on campus. I can honestly say that I have never experienced anything remotely similar to these stories.
As a pledge, we never did anything that could be viewed as gay. We had to take our clothes off once, but in a VERY non-homoerotic way. I have heard stories of other fraternities doing some not so straight things during their pledging process, but I am sure that most of these stories are only rumors with no truth. For example, one of the fraternities forces pledges to pour milk in their asses and then get fucked with vegetables. Another fraternity makes their pledges clean naked at all hours of the day. I think that even if these stories were true, they would be more for the purpose of embarrassing the pledges, not fulfilling homosexual fantasies of the brothers.
I am also shocked that so many people believe fraternities are a haven for gay sex. I definitely know of a lot of Greek guys who are gay, but they are random guys in different houses. I have yet to come across a house with more than 2 gay guys in it and I am sure those guys don’t even know the other is gay. I think so many gay guys fantasy about fraternities so much (beside the fact that it is a large house with a lot of men) because for the most part, the guys who are meant to be in a fraternity and who get hazed and go through pledging end up being open and free individuals. All of my brothers are very comfortable with themselves and in my experience, fraternity guys are very comfortable with their sexuality and very outgoing. If you look at those pictures above, I seriously doubt any of those guys are gay, but it is obvious that they are comfortable being around each other and being open about their bodies, etc. I am sure that is a very attractive quality, especially since so many gay guys are closeted and not at all comfortable with themselves.
I am slowly coming out of the closet and have told several of my close friends in the fraternity that I am gay, all of whom have been very supportive and nonchalant about it. I do remember: however, two years ago, we were voting on a potential pledge, almost everyone had voted yes until someone remarked that there were rumors he was gay. He was immediately cut. Although this incident did make me nervous to come out at first, I realized that the majority of our brothers have never known a gay guy and probably had no idea how to respond to that situation. I hope that when I eventually do come out to the entire brotherhood, I will be able to open their minds a little bit.
