Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman teases ‘ongoing’ season 4 updates

Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman isn’t done fighting for a fourth season of the hit Netflix series. While speaking at the recent Waterstones Children’s Book Festival, Oseman said she’s hopeful about a fourth season (per @heurtstopper on TikTok).

“I’m working very hard behind the scenes to get us a renewal for Heartstopper,” Oseman said. “It is still ongoing. We don’t have a final answer yet, but there are so many people behind the scenes who are working really hard to make it happen. We’re feeling optimistic. We’re feeling hopeful.

The Heartstopper creator concluded, “Hopefully we’ll be able to share some news about that sometime soon. Fingers crossed.”

The third season of the popular teen romance series starring Joe Locke (as Charlie) and Kit Connor (as Nick) aired last fall without any confirmation concerning a fourth season.

The show, based on Oseman’s webcomic and graphic novels of the same name, focuses on the love story between two classmates at Truham Grammar School. It also features a supporting cast heavy with queer characters, including trans girl Elle (Yasmin Finney), girlfriends Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) and Tara (Corinna Brown), and the asexual and aromantic Isaac (Tobie Donovan).

The third season featured Jonathan Bailey as an Instagram-famous influencer that Charlie considers his celebrity crush.

Oseman has said that, if a fourth season happens, it will likely be the last.

“I really really just want to tell the end of the story on TV and bring all of those characters, their stories, to a close,” Oseman said on the I’ve Never Said This Before podcast in October 2024. “So fingers crossed.”

“So four would be the end?” podcast host Tommy DiDario asked.

“Yeah, for sure,” Oseman replied.

Heartstopper is streaming on Netflix.
