When Johanna Sigurdardottir was appointed as Iceland's prime minister, she became the first openly gay head of government in modern times and her country's first female prime minister. Now Sigurdardottir (that's a mouthful, eh?) has made history by retaining her seat as prime minister in the country's general elections.
On another note, Iceland has apparently had gay marriage since 1996. Behind much, America? Just sayin'!

Check your facts. Iceland has registered partnerships, NOT marriage.
