Alhough I haven’t really had a chance to decide if I like The 1975 as a band, it should come as no surprise that I really enjoy “Sex”. The song, which was released months ago, acted as the first single off the English foursome’s self-titled debut, and for whatever reason, I’ve managed to completely ignore it until this morning.
Maybe it’s because I’m suffering from a drought of vaguely whiny rock music, or perhaps it’s the irritating omnipresence of “Applause“, “Roar“, “Work Bitch” and Miley Cyrus talk on my Facebook and Twitter feeds… All I know is that, whatever is happening to my ears and brain right now, this song hit my sweet spot this morning.
Quick listens to followup singles “Chocolate” and “The City” indicate that this might just be a fluke, but I’m still willing to give this album a chance to find out if anything measures up to “Sex” (as soon as I finish listening to the 90,000 exciting new releases that today has brought us).
